Safety Tips for Celebrating the 4th of July

July 4th is a beloved holiday in America because it is a time where we celebrate our freedom with our friends and family. As we are slowly getting closer to normalcy again post-pandemic, many of us are prepared to hit the roads again this holiday. Regardless of where you spend Independence Day, you should prioritize your safety and do what you can to have a safe time.

Here are some of our tips on how to remain safe while celebrating the 4th of July this year:

Stay Alert When Driving. This cherished holiday is one of the most dangerous days of the year to drive in the US, mainly due to the increase of drunk drivers. Be aware of your surroundings while on the road, and keep a reasonable distance from other cars. There will be more traffic than usual, and parking may be difficult in crowded areas. As a result, plan ahead and research how to best get to your desired destination.

Do NOT drink and drive. There is an increase in overall alcohol consumption for the fourth. If you plan on drinking, be sure to have a safe ride worked out ahead of time. Furthermore, if you are with a group, have some be the designated driver or plan to get a ride through a rideshare app.

Make sure your fireworks are legal at your location. If you have legal fireworks to ignite, always use caution and light them in areas that are clear of others and away from anything flammable. Also, do not allow small children to handle fireworks.

Use sun protection. If you plan to spend most of the holiday outdoors, protect yourself from the heat. Use sunscreen, wear a hat or sunglasses, and dress appropriately for the water. Also, always have water on hand to stay hydrated.

Have your vehicle properly inspected before going out of town.  Most people do their traveling during this holiday. Get your vehicle properly inspected before you leave so you do not find yourself having car troubles along the way. At Barney Brothers, we offer pre-trip inspections to ensure that your vehicle is in tip-top condition. Come into our shop in Grand Junction, CO, today.

We hope the tips above will allow you to have a safe and fun-filled 4th of July holiday. Happy 4th from the team at Barney Brothers!
